The next panel discussion was all about historical fiction for young adults with Deborah Swift, C. C. Humphreys and Simon Scarrow.
Young adult fiction is good for both adults and children to share together with authors such as Rosemary Sutcliffe and Henry Treece among many others whose work has been enjoyed down the generations. The key to success in this is to not make it read like a history book but more of an adventure or a mystery. To appeal to a wide audience it is best to have both male and female characters in a team, each with their own skills. Their world also needs to reflect the readers’ world and the worries that they have about life.
